Hostess Problems

After being a hostess for around a month, allow me to rant about all of the problems I have as a hostess.

1. When you’re gone for a second and the next thing you know customers seat themselves.

ON C’MON THE SIGN SAYS PLEASE WAIT TO BE SEATED I JUST WENT TO GO SEAT SOMEONE AND THEN YOU SEAT YOURSELF?? I WAS COMING BACK SMH

2. When you’re forced to double seat someone.

Servers/Waiter/Waitresses get pissed at you.

Customers get pissed at you because it took them awhile for a server to get to them.

why is life so hard

3. When your partner double seats someone.

first off what the fuck are you doing

second i hate being blamed for your shitty work, partner

4. When customers ask you to do something that a server is supposed to do.

wtf i’m not a server i don’t know where or how i can get more food for you please ask them instead

5. When customers ask to sit somewhere else.

First off, that section has no servers. Or I’d have to double seat them, and then both of you guys will give me bullshit.

Second, THIS IS THE ONLY PLACE I CAN SEAT YOU RIGHT NOW. WE HAVE A LARGE LINEUP, AND I’M JUST TRYING TO GIVE YOU A SEAT WHERE YOU’LL BE SERVED THE QUICKEST.

6. When customers complain about the autogratuity fee.

bitch i’m not the one who made the fucking fee just go to another restaurant (they probably have the same fee too for larger groups)

7. When a server cuts themselves without telling you.

BITCH WHAT THE FUCK I JUST SAT THAT SECTION BECAUSE I THOUGHT YOU WERE STILL THERE WHY DID YOU TELL ME THIS AFTER I SAT THEM TELL ME THIS WHEN YOU CUT YOURSELF JFC

(because of this i literally have to ask a server every time if they’re cut before sitting their section and 99% of the time they say yes and then i’m forced to double seat people HAHAHA)

8. When all of the cuts are made, and you’re all alone with 3 servers, and then a large group of people come.

what the fuck please no this is suffering for me and the servers get out pls

There’s probably some more, but I can’t think of any at the moment.

Anyways, if you go to a restaurant, and you have a host, CONSIDER THIS:

If there’s a sign that says “please wait to be seated”, JUST WAIT. DON’T GO IN AND SEAT YOURSELF.

Don’t complain about where you where sat unless the table you were sat at is completely filthy, because hosts/hostesses are supposed to seat good tables if possible, and you were unfortunately sat there because that was the only table they could have sat you at without any complications.

Try to ask your server if you need any help. Hosts/hostesses are usually busy most of the time. They’re walking around to look for a table, not to help you. If you have to, you can ask a busser to help you (they tend to be less busy, unless asked by a host/server to clean a table), but bussers will probably only know where napkins or sauces are at. They won’t give you a bill, or more food.

The reason why there’s an autogratuity fee (for larger groups) is because you guys are generally hard to deal with, ruder than customers in smaller amounts (for whatever reason), and you NEVER TIP. But did you know, in North America because owners are assholes, servers/waiters are fucked if they don’t receive a tip? (Some are.) In my workplace, there are tipouts, and those tipouts are based on sales. If the servers at my work are not making a 15%-20% tip from a customer, they lose money because they have to pay large amounts to tipout, regardless if people tip or not. It’s honestly ridiculous, but there’s nothing we can do about it. :/

    • It’s a term that mostly servers and hosts only know.
How a restaurant typically works is that there’s a floor plan, and each server is assigned certain tables. Double seating is where the host/hostess decides to seat their tables twice in a row (or twice in a short period amount of time), so that the server is forced to rush both of the orders in at the same time.
It’s extremely stressful for the server.

      • Oh, then that’s why I don’t know it! 😀
What are you talking about?! That sounds LOVELY! It DEFINITELY doesn’t sound stressful to me! Nope, not one bit! *sarcasm*

    • I feel like everyone should work at the restaurant industry as a part time job for a short amount of time so that they understand all of the problems restaurant staff members have to face.
